Girls Basketball Rules  2010

IHSA rules for all situations not specifically addressed in the following.

All Grades – All Divisions:

  1. Forfeit time is 10 minutes after the scheduled start time.

 

  1. Five (5) minutes are allowed between the end of one game to the beginning of the next game.
  1. All games will be allowed five (5) minutes at halftime.

 

  1. Three (3)-point shots are allowed at all levels.
  1. Each team will receive 4 Time outs per game.

 

  1. There will be one two-minute overtime period for the 5th grade level if the score is still the same the game will then end in a tie.
  1. Overtime Rule for grades 6th 7th & 8th is a 3- minute overtime period.  Each team will be given one additional time out.  Must continue to play until one team wins.

 

Undergarments that are worn under jerseys MUST be the same color for all team members or they cannot be worn.  NO EXCEPTIONS

  1. IHSA Rule 5-5:

 

          IHSA adopted this year the use of a running clock if a team is leading                                                                         
               by 30 points at anytime during the 4th quarter.  The clock will run the                       
               rest of the game even if the deficit narrows and during free throws.  The                           
               Southside Catholic Conference will be instituting this rule in the following
               way:  With three (3) minutes left in the 4th quarter or less and the following:

               5th & 6th Grade:  The clock will start running when a team is leading by 15 points.

              7th & 8th Grade:  The clock will start running when a team is leading by 20 points.

  1. In all divisions there will be  four 7 minute quarters with the clock stopping only in the last minute of the second quarter and the last two minutes of the fourth quarter.  The clock will also stop for penalty shots and timeouts.

 

5th Grade:

          A)       For 5th grade boys and all girl divisions, a basketball size of 28.5 will be used.

          B)      No press will be allowed until the final two (2) minutes of each half and any overtime
                   period.  Defenders will be 7 feet back off the half court line to allow offensive players
                        with the ball to cross half court.  Also, the no-press rule is in effect if a team is leading
                   by 12 or more points.  The leading team will be confined to inside the 3-point circle
                   line when a team has reached this lead.

          C)      Players will follow IHSA guidelines regarding foul shots with the exception there will
          be no double bonus on the 10th foul.
         
6th Grade White Division:

          A)       No press will be allowed until the final two (2) minutes of each half and any overtime
                   period.  Defenders will be 7 feet back off the half court line to allow offensive players with the ball to cross half court.  Also, the no-press rule is in effect if a team is leading                    by 12 or more points.  The leading defensive team will be confined to inside the 3-point circle line when a team has reached this lead.

  1. Players will follow IHSA guidelines regarding foul shot.

 

6th Grade Red Division:

 

  1. Full court press is allowed at any time except by a team leading by 15 or more points.

          The leading defensive team will be confined to inside the 3-pooint circle line when a team has reached this lead.

  1. Players will follow IHSA guidelines regarding foul shots.

 

7th & 8th Grade All Divisions:

 

  1. Full court press is allowed at any time except by a team leading by 20 or more points.  The leading defensive team will be confined to inside the 3-point circle line when a team has reached this lead.
  1. Players will follow IHSA guidelines regarding foul shots.
